Mandeville Canyon Residence

A collaboration with architecture firm AUX on an elegant courtyard adjacent to a soft, natural landscape. The geometric shaped, infinite edged pool lends to repetition of the form throughout the hardscape. The scope involved converting the steeply sloping back yard into terraced massings of various adjacent programs including a raised vegetable garden, fire pit gathering space, contemplation space, and lawn play space for the client’s dog and children. A chef’s exterior kitchen and bar extends the abutting interior kitchen into the courtyard for entertainment and recreation. The introduction of a centrally placed mature Oak tree flanked by two Strawberry trees provides both shade and vertical presence within the space. Natural materials (stone, boulders, and native plantings) juxtapose the introduction of the architecture and built environment.
