The design team used site topography and the strategic placement of the building to screen vehicular uses and to create a series of memorable indoor and outdoor spaces. As home to an ever-expanding collection of rare and unique plant species from around the world, the landscape design will not only display and raise awareness about the plant collection, but also provide an immersive and pedagogical experience, ever-changing and carefully crafted to the unique variations of the site. Interpretive signage draws attention to the cultural significance of each species. A series of weirs highlight stormwater management in the Oak wash. Large cisterns collect water for irrigation on site.
