Mulholland Residence
A secluded retreat in the Hollywood Hills, this project offers a deliberate escape from the intensity of the world beyond, dissolving boundaries between landscape, architecture, and art. Entering from Mulholland Drive, a concealed portal through a privacy hedge draws visitors past reflective water features and into an interactive sequence where the house and landscape unfold as one. Beyond the rear of the property, guests are guided through a curated artistic journey, anchored by Jacob Hopkins’ sculptural fire feature and counterbalanced by a layered onyx stone water installation. On the second terrace, a mythical tree canopy presides over a pop-art tiled pool created by artist Kii Arens. Along the stair, within an opening known as the Thought Forest, a human-scaled kaleidoscope is discovered inside a birdhouse, an unexpected collaboration between UPON and artist Chris Holms, inviting reflection, wonder, and play.
